Sun Mountain H2NO Lite Cart Bag 2023 review: NCG Summary

4 star review

NCG Summary

Another clever design from Sun Mountain. Although made with specific aims, I found it easy to use and would consider it as my go-to cart bag due, in no small part, to its fantastic waterproofing. The dividers were excellent, and I would not underplay the convenience of clubs not getting stuck, which can be a real irritation with some bags.

PROS

  • Very light for a cart bag
  • Excellent waterproofing
  • Thoughtfully designed dividers

CONS

  • Quite pricey
  • Zips can be a little fiddly

First Impressions

I have always liked Sun Mountain’s approach to golf bags. They are a little bit different from other manufacturers. It came as no surprise to me then, to see the striking colours of this cart bag. The one reviewed is described as navy/blue/ocean. The blue is lighter than a classic navy and the ocean is a bright green, mainly lining the dividers. One if you want to stand out from the crowd. It is definitely light, made from TPU-covered waterproof fabric and with waterproof zips and multiple pockets. What more could you want?

NCG Verdict

My current cart bag weighs in at 3.3 kg and my small waterproof stand bag, that I generally use for carrying, weighs 1.7kg. This bag weighs 2.6 kg. Despite it being a cart bag, it certainly feels light and if your trolley died I think it would be manageable to carry, albeit with a single strap. The top is 27 cm with 14 good-sized, full length dividers including a dedicated putter pocket that will accommodate even the most ludicrously fat grips.

There are seven pockets, 2 large on either side, 2 valuable pockets and 3 pockets at the front, one of which is a cool pocket.

The base has a large recessed area to fit Sun Mountain trolleys but according to the website will fit other trolleys and it certainly helped to prevent any rotation on my Motocaddy trolley.

As expected, it has a hood and with everything zipped up it looks impressively waterproof. Due to the unseasonably dry weather I did not get a chance to put this fully to the test.

This sat nicely in my electric trolley and, when strapped in did not budge once during the round. Sun Mountain always seem to have put real thought into their designs and this shone through for me with the dividers. All the dividers are large enough that should you accidentally put a club into one that already contained a club you didn’t spend the next 5 minutes trying to extricate both clubs that had become stuck. The dividers in the centre are a bit bigger than the ones down the side and not once during my rounds did I have the above-mentioned issue.

The bag itself has a slightly squishier feel to it than more traditional cart bags, which I am sure is due to the weight reduction. The pockets are capacious enough to hold everything needed for a wet day’s golf. The zips on the large front pockets are single and therefore can be little awkward to fully close and open, particularly with the floppier feel to the material but this clearly is to enhance the waterproofing. The cool pocket is a useful feature but was not the most elegant when it had a couple of bottles in it.

Final Thoughts

This is not your typical cart bag. It has clearly been designed to be light and waterproof and it has achieved both of these in an uncompromising way. It’s not cheap at around £359. Most golfers will buy only one cart bag. I think this needs to be in the conversation when looking at cart bags despite it being a little different. It does what it was designed for exceptionally well and I enjoyed using it.
