Ping are back with a set of irons that are designed to launch higher, fly further and feel more solid. They have released a new set of game-improvement irons called the Ping G740s.
Many golfers opt to use game-improvement irons for the simply fact that they make the game a little easier and more enjoyable.
Whilst the more compact and often tour-preferred players’ irons prioritise workability and shot-shaping, game-improvement irons are designed to help golfers hit the ball higher, straighter and more consistently.
The G740s combine a confidence-inspiring profile with serious performance technology. Here’s a closer look at how that performance comes about…

Ping G740 Irons: The technology
The G740s feature an expanded blade length, thicker topline and wider sole enable substantial perimeter weighting. This all helps to lower the Centre of Gravity (CG) and increases the forgiveness on offer.
Ping believe that this high-MOI design delivers exceptional forgiveness on mishits, preserving ball speed and directional stability across the face.
A wider dual-camber sole also positions the CG low and back in the head. This sort of geometry is aimed at promoting faster ball speeds and a higher launch, as well as improving turf interaction.

No matter how good we think we are or how good of a round we’re having, you can always bank on spraying your golf ball into the rough or worse at some point.
Being able to move your club cleanly through the ground from any sort of lie is, therefore, an essential to better play. Ping believes this CG position helps to do just that.
Being a game-improvement iron you won’t be surprised to find that it has a shallower face height and shorter hosel. This saves weight across the face.

In all honesty, those of you who will find these more appealing won’t been the purest of ball strikers and that’s fine. This thin, flexible face construction is your friend.

Ping says it works to maximise ball speeds across the face, not just from the centre.
The face is also supported by a new three-piece PurFlex cavity badge. It helps to dampen vibrations whilst also delivering a more solid feel.
