With a new year, comes new ideas and innovation. That is certainly the case with Callaway, whose focus has firmly shifted to speed, believing speed is everything.

I think it is fair to say that most golfers who like to hit the ball further. Distance is important to saving shots, and ball speed is important to uncovering more distance.

Traditionally golf club manufactures have always looked at making game-improvement irons go further. That’s where Callaway has differed from the rest.

The brand instead has looked to increase the speed and forgiveness, across the face, to allow golfers to hit more greens. They go as far as believing these irons will enable golfers to take a quantum leap in the number of greens they hit. Apologies for the pun, it was intended.

So, let’s take a look at how this has all be achieved and the technology use in the new Callawau Quantum irons…

Callaway Quantum Irons: The Technology

The brand has included a Modern 360° Undercut Cavity in each of its new model designs. It plays a central role in promoting faster ball speeds, a higher launch, and added forgiveness across the face of the clubs.

It does this by allowing the club face to flex more at impact, when golfers need it most. Its advanced two-piece design with extreme perimeter weighting is also a big factor in these performance gains.

Additionally, Callaway has included their Progressive Tri-Sole Design in the Quantum iron range. This is designed to improve turf interaction throughout the set by adapting sole geometry as the loft increases.

Long irons are engineered to promote what most golfers would consider a cleaner contact and entry through the turf. This is in comparison to shorter irons that are crafted to offer more control.

This progression helps golfers maintain speed and consistency, even on heavier strikes.

Moving onto the face design. Callaway believe the Next Generation Al-Optimised Face delivers faster ball speeds and more consistent launch, spin, and dispersion.

The shape of the face has been altered to help achieve this as the sweet spot has been expanded for better results on off-centred strikes.

Urethane Microspheres are incorporated into the head to enhance sound and feel without sacrificing performance.

These microspheres absorb unwanted vibration while preserving face flex, resulting in a softer, more refined sensation at impact that complements the high-speed nature of the iron design.
