NCG SUMMARY
This is a fantastic golf ball option for club golfers. It offers incredible consistency throughout the bag as well as a durable construction. Off the tee is where it really stands out as quality distance golf ball.
Although it may lack the quality touch around the greens that most premium options offer, it is still high launching so golfers are able to control into the greens.
PROS
- Incredibly consistent
- High-launching
- Durable
CONS
- Lacks the crisp greenside control of some urethan cover golf balls
Titleist Velocity Golf Ball Review: First Impressions
Unlike Titleist’s premium offerings, the Velocity does not feature a urethane cover, which you can feel as it didn’t feel like it could deliver the same level of greenside spin as a Titleist Pro V1. Although, I thought it still provides a respectable feel off the clubface.
The sound and feel off the putter face was fairly distinctive. It has quite the high pitched sound, though it still remained comfortable and avoids the harsh clickiness of some harder, distance balls.
NCG Verdict
As a two-piece construction golf ball, it sits above the TrueFeel in Titleist’s lineup. It offers a bit more technology and an overall refined performance aimed at the average club golfer.

When testing the ball with a wedge, the Velocity showed solid consistency but lacked high spin rates. With a launch angle of 32 degrees and average spin rates of around 5,700 RPM, it tends to fly slightly higher but with less bite on approach shots. For golfers relying heavily on spin control around the greens, this might be a slight drawback.
Moving further into the bag and with a 7-iron in hand, I was able to achieve a ball speed of 115 mph and a spin rate of 5,300 RPM. These numbers are relatively low and would have hoped for a little more performance in these areas.

However, the penetrating flight and excellent carry distance somewhat made up for the lack of spin. With an average carry of 163 yards and an average total distance of 173 yards, the Velocity provided impressive yardage gains throughout testing. Additionally, it kept a tight dispersion pattern—a major plus for those looking for extra consistency.

Off the driver, the Velocity truly shines. Generating a ball speed of 155 mph, with a low spin rate of 2,200 RPM, it delivered outstanding carry and roll-out. I was able to reach 268 yards of carry and a total yardage of 287. For mid to high handicap players seeking extra yardage off the tee, this ball provides a noticeable boost.

The Titleist Velocity is a fantastic option for golfers who want a durable, high-launching, and incredibly consistent golf ball that maximises distance. While it may not offer the greenside control of a urethane-covered ball, its performance off the tee and with mid-irons makes it a worthy contender for those looking to improve their long game.
At a reasonable price point, it represents excellent value for the club golfer, so be sure to give it a go.
