The Ram Golf Tour Grind wedges are an absolute bargain price but look in no way like a discount club. The grooves look sharp and deep, the face is milled, and they have a solid weight to them that gives you the confidence you are going to be able to flight in a low spinny pitch on demand.
I, rather embarrassingly, have had the same wedges in the bag for about 4 years and to say they are starting to look tired is probably an understatement, so I was looking forward to having a go with some new scoring clubs.
I started the testing session with some full shots, and really liked the low flight the Tour Grind wedge produced. I don’t like to see the ball get too high as it feels out of control, but that wasn’t an issue at all as they launched pretty low with loads of spin. Distance isn’t an important measurable with wedges but they went exactly the same distance as the Vokeys I currently play.
For the second part of the wedge test, I moved into the bunker and as this is part of the game I really enjoy, this is a big factor for me when choosing wedges, and probably part of the reason why I haven’t changed in so long. I was absolutely delighted with how well the Ram Golf Tour Grind wedge moved through the sand, producing high short shots with plenty of spin. I was really able to create some speed through the ball and get the ball to stop on its second bounce.
The final part of the test was performed by chipping around the green. I noticed the ball felt to come off the face quicker than usual, which could be due to the head not being forged like what I’m used to. This isn’t really a problem, as with enough practice you’d learn the feel of the club and how hard to hit it. Again shots were played with loads of spin so hats off to Ram Golf for doing such a great job with the grooves and face milling.

The Ram Golf Tour Grind wedge comes in a variety of lofts, but you don’t get any bounce options as you do with the ‘premium’ brands, which I think will be a limiting factor for some people. Selecting a bounce that compliments your technique and the course you play at has become a big part of wedge fitting recently so just having one option per loft is quite restricting.
Another custom fitting issue is not being able to order custom options like shaft material or grip style or size, however, I suppose this is part of the reason why they are such an unbelievable price.
Overall I think Ram Golf have done a brilliant job with the Tour Grind wedge, and there is no reason why you couldn’t have an elite short game using these wedges. To have face milling on a wedge that costs less than £40 is crazy, and the control the spin gives you is top-notch.
I could absolutely put these in my bag and be happy I would get great, reliable performance, but I would have to adjust the grip size and lie angle before taking them out into competitive play. If you are in the market for new wedges and want to keep your costs down, be sure to give these a try.
