NCG SUMMARY

Cobra have introduced a new level to fitting in their DS-Adapt range. Equipped with a new hosel system this fairway wood offers unrivalled adjustability to optimise your swing type and performance.

Paired with an uncharacteristically toned down styling from Cobra, this is a fantastic low spin fairway wood option. With a quick ball speed and plenty of workability on offer a faster swinging golfer could utilise this for top level performance.

PROS

  • Fast club face
  • Compact profile
  • A highly adjustable fairway wood

First Impressions

As we have seen in the DS-Adapt driver range, Cobra has seemingly gone quieter on the aesthetics. The first thing that has sprung to mind when thinking about Cobra over the last decade is Rickie Fowler and his orange trousers. I think a lot of their hardware is now reflecting a more appealing minimalist look.

I believe as a brand they are now trying to grow and the new DS-Adapt range is an example of that. Cobra possibly hasn’t been considered, in the wider golfing community, together with and alongside the main brands which I think they are trying to change.

Visually it is a lot more understated than previous Cobra fairway woods. Saying that it does resemble a sort of Batmobile look with its black and silver styling.

Everything considered, I do think it looks clean and has a traditionally shaped club head. It sits behind the ball lovely giving the feeling that the ball is going to come off the face faster.

NCG Verdict

Having hit the new Cobra DS-Adapt driver, I had high hopes for the latest Cobra fairway wood. I tend to notice with Cobra metalwoods is that they have fast faces and that from the endless testing the NCG team has done over the years Cobra clubs usually come out quickest.

Cobra has historically been seen as a cheaper option but still boast plenty of tech. Although, they have moved the price point up closer to their competitors they are still a more affordable option and are great value for money.

New for the DS-Adapt range is a new hosel system, FutureFit33, which makes it the most adjustable fairway wood ever made. Brands are eager for golfers to get fitted for the clubs more so than probably ever before. This hosel system makes fitting more accurate and suitable than previously possible.

Cobra DS-Adapt LS Fairway Wood Review

There are 33 loft and lie combinations for maximum adjustability. Golfers are also able to change the characteristics of the club at any time to be compatible with swing changes, course conditions etc. This is particularly relevant for fairway woods and fitting resembles a more serious player message than what Cobra fairways have resembled previously.

More than any other brand, Cobra are pushing a low and forward centre of gravity in their fairway woods. Which you can feel as it resembles the feeling of a mini driver more than a fairway wood.

Even though I was testing the low spin model of the Cobra DS-Adapt and with that CG location, the spin rate still clocked at 300rpm. This is a good return for me and my swing with a fairway wood.

Overall, I think this is a great option for longer hitting golfers. Throughout testing I found it to be completely playable and could see its use out on the course. This was yet another Cobra club that I enjoyed to hit from this year’s release.
