The Srixon Z Star Diamond golf ball is the ball of choice by Srixon tour professionals, and it’s easy to see why. This is the spinniest of all of Srixon’s golf balls and with greens on tour being firmer and faster all the time, this ball is an ally in the bag.
If you’re a low-trajectory player looking for more spin and height with your shots, this ball is absolutely worth giving a go.

We all need more control over the greens, don’t we? The Srixon Z Star Diamond golf ball has the solution for us; more spin. This is the spinniest golf ball that Srizon offer, and if it’s good enough for Brooks Koepka, it’s good enough for me.
I’ve never used the Z Star Diamond golf ball, but with having also recently tested the Z Star, and The Z Star XV, I was looking forward to testing the ball that Brooks uses and seeing if it was more suited me to me than the other two models.
Out of the box and onto the green, these balls feel really firm, especially having just tested the standard Z Star ball. It took a bit of getting used to with the putter, but I loved the way you can get the ball dancing on the green with short wedge shots.
The 2023 Srixon Z Star Diamond golf ball has the new spin skin coating, which creates more friction on the club face than before, which increases our control. You really notice this with wedges out of the sand, fairway and rough. It’s worth noting that the balls didn’t scuff up much with all these wedge shots so that’s a huge tick in the durability column.
The 50-yard shots I hit all had a very consistent spin, which is exactly what a tour player is looking for; predictability. I would have liked a fraction more spin, but this can lie and strike dependant, and sadly I am no ball-hitting robot.

The 7 iron shots are where it gets interesting. The spin on these shots is so high! Now I don’t mind it as because I’m a low ball hitter, I sometimes struggle when the greens get really firm, but I could see this being an issue for some players who need more distance rather than control.
The driver data is also interesting to look at. The spin is very high, but the ball speed was still pretty good. If I had a low-spin driver build as most guys on tour do, I’m sure this would negate it, but with my high-spin forgiving driver, these shots wouldn’t be ideal for me on the course.
I really like this ball and would happily put this in play with the increased control and stopping power, but I would need to look at a different driver setup to accommodate. Slow-speed players looking for more distance won’t benefit from using this ball, but if you have tour-level speed, be sure to give it a go.

How far you want to hit the golf ball is a crucial consideration when picking a brand and model. Getting the right compression relative to your swing speed and strike will help you get the maximum distance out of a golf ball. You also need to consider if getting maximum distance is important to you or if you would rather give up some yardage to gain in other areas.
Spin
Generally, lower handicappers are looking for a ball that spins more so they can get more control around the greens. In this case, getting a ball with a urethane cover is really important as it will give you the most spin and control.
Price
Not everyone wants to spend £50 a dozen on golf balls. When picking the right golf ball for you, you should consider how much you want to spend relative to what performance you want.
