The Callaway Chrome Soft has been one of Callaway’s most popular golf balls for the club golfer in their line up. So, how does the latest iteration for perform? Find out in our Callaway 2026 Chrome Soft golf ball review.

Summary

4.5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

The Callaway Chrome Soft provides a softer touch and is ideal for players with slower swing speeds – averaging 90 and 105 mph – who prioritize precision and feel. This ball delivers exceptional control both around the greens and when approaching the flag.

PROS

  • Great short game feel
  • Good height/descent angle into greens
  • Good driver dispersion

CONS

  • Slightly less spin and distance than Chrome Tour balls

First Impressions

There hasn’t been much visual change to the Callaway 2026 Chrome Soft golf ball, this is still the golf ball you have loved for the last few years. The red numbers and crisp white paint job really give it a premium look and feel even before you hit.

Hitting this model of ball for the first time it was a lovely soft feel off the face, very lightweight and easy to move. Having just hit the Srixon AD333 it was noticeable a little firmer but not by much.

Test results

Like all the previous Callaway Chrome Soft golf balls, this latest generation is aimed at the aspirational club golfer who is looking for a tour-level golf ball. It’s a four piece golf ball containing premium technology but is crafted for golfers with a slightly softer swing speed.

Starting with a pitching wedge, I found that the carry increased consistently on what I was seeing in my warm up with my regular Pro V1x ball. The launch angle so went up on average a few degrees. I did see a drop in spin rate by an average of 1000 rpm. However, when testing around the greens with short game shots I did see the ball stopping pretty fast.

Moving onto irons, I hit both seven and five iron to compare data. The carry numbers were spot on in terms of what I’d expect to see. It’s a similar story to my wedge, seeing a drop in spin compared to my usual numbers. With that said, the ball flight was very nice and not too high.

With the driver, the Chrome Soft delivered consistent carry numbers and ball speed but the spin rates did vary quite a bit. This certainly wasn’t my fastest swing speed day but was still happy to see the ball flying consistently and pretty straight.

Around the green this was a very soft ball to use. It provided a nice amount of spin on chip shots. Off the putter face it’s a similar story being soft but not to the point it doesn’t move well off the face.

NCG Verdict

Overall, the Callaway Chrome Soft is an outstanding option for players who are looking for that little extra feel, control, and consistency.
