You know it’s the dead of winter when golfers are bringing their mats to the course. Plenty of courses enforce the use of a golf mat during the winter months and a lot of the time they can be a real pain to use. Enter the Spurk golf mat – a possible solution to making winter golf enjoyable.

I must say that the Spurk golf mat was a pleasant switch from that poor quality stereotype that is perceived of golf mats as a generalisation. Read our review to find out how useful these golf mats were.
NCG SUMMARY
This is a quality piece of kit that feels great to hit the golf ball off. With plenty of spin on offer chipping off the Spurk golf mats is not only a joy but fun as well.
With a solid base made up of six spikes, stability isn’t an issue with these golf mats. There will be no need to trudge down the fairway in retrieving your mat as it will stay securely in the ground.

First Impressions
I tested out both the short pile grass golf mat and the long pile grass golf mat, both of which had a confidence inspiring look to them that made it easier to be able to adopt to hitting of a different surface. This was evident even with its more compact profile than what is standard with golf mats.
They didn’t seem clunky or excessively big, which is ideal to be able to store and carry around the course. It’s also appropriately sized, I believe, as a smaller area suited my eye at impact better than a more traditionally shaped golf mat.
Both the shorter and longer grass pile mats visually mimic the experience of playing off grass more than anything I’ve encountered before. There doesn’t seem to be an obvious elevation that is evident with some golf mats, the golf ball isn’t elevated above the golfers at feet.
These are great looking golf mats that have a fluffy look that is enticing to strike the ball cleanly with plenty of launch. Something that cannot always be said about the fairways of golf courses across the winter months.
NCG Verdict
The first thing to say about the performance of these golf mats is that they are incredibly stable. How often is it that when you strike the ball from a mat and it flips over or finds itself laying down the fairway like a divot. It can be constant and annoying, but the Spurk golf mats have no such problem.

Equipped with six spikes that make it easy to lock into the ground, producing strong stability. Having a stable base meant I had plenty of confidence to strike the ball with greater force and swing faster, having the trust that I would gain a pure strike if I made the right contact.
Green keepers will also be happy as this stability protects fairways from any ground damage with its stability. The spikes also don’t leave much of a mark in the ground.
This golf mat stands up to any on the market right now. Due to its compact size it can be easily transported and stored in a golf bag.
I tested both the short and longer pile grass mats with a number of clubs. Around the greens, I found the shorter pile grass mat to spin considerably and was extremely easy to generate bags of spin from all over the course.
This was particularly useful for creating different types of shots and was, in truth, extremely fun to use. Additionally, I found hitting longer irons and drives of the mats very comfortable.
Overall, I would certainly recommend the Spurk golf mats. If you are a winter golfer and will be heading down to the course over the next few months then a golf mat will become an essential bit of your kit and this is definitely worth the price.
The price can be off putting but I do think the quality of these mats warrants it and they do seem to be durable to last you more than one winter.
