Wilson have unveiled the new D9 line-up, a full range of clubs designed to help you hit the ball further.
And, as is the way these days, Wilson have developed the new range using computer modelling software to test numerous clubhead variations. So how does this work? Well, it involves 120 computers running continuously for seven days a week. From there they can finalise a design that ensures the golfer gets the most out of every shot. Pretty cool, if you like that sort of thing.
Let’s take a closer look at the new range.
Wilson D9: First impressions
Regular readers and viewers know I love a stealthy look in my golf clubs and the Wilson D9 metalwoods are right up my street.
In terms of the design there’s a lot less going on than we saw in the D7. Less is definitely more on that front. I’m a fan.
Wilson D9: The technology
The new drivers feature what Wilson are calling a ‘peak kinetic response’ clubface. This means the face is divided into numerous zones which are fine tuned to ensure no distance is lost regardless of where in face you catch it.
It has a carbon crown to reduce weight and lower the centre of gravity for an improved flight, while the back weight you can see on the sole is customisable. You can choose between a three- or a 10-gram weight to fine tune forgiveness and flight.
Both the fairway woods and hybrids feature variable face technology for the first time. This helps give high ball speeds and launch angles regardless of where you strike it on the face.
In the irons again we see the Power Hole 2.0 technology on the sole. These slots are filled with urethane which allows more energy to be transferred to the ball increasing ball speeds and distance.
