This sense of power can make amateurs, who are normally struggling for distance, feel like tour pros when the thinner air allows the ball to travel a lot further. But where will the best course be to take advantage of this?

There’s a number of regions where the highest golf course in the world could be especially with mountain ranges such as The Alps, The Andes and The Rocky Mountains on Earth.

However, the highest golf course in the world is located in the Himalayas. To be more precise it is in the very North of India close to the Chinese and Bhutan borders.

You will find the Yak Course in Kupup, East Sikkim, India.

How high is the highest course in the world?

At 13,025ft (3790m) it is the highest 18 hole golf course in the world, officially measured on October 10 2006 by the Guinness World Records. It measures over 6,000 yards long (5,510m) when played at its full length.

Other high courses around the world

There are many worthy candidates for highest golf course in the world.

Europe’s highest course is Via Lattea golf course, Sestriere, Italy, it stands at 6,677ft (2,035m). It Opened in 1932 and hosted the 1936 Italian Open won by Henry Cotton.

Sestriere was also one of the main venues for the 2006 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

North America has a number of high courses, the highest being Copper Creek , Copper Mountain, Colorado. The par 69 course stands at 9,863ft (3,006m) at its highest point.

South Americas highest course is La Paz Golf Club, Peru and stands at 11,800ft (3,600m) and plays host to the highest tournament in the world.

However, South America did have a higher golf course up until the early 1990s, the Tucto golf club also in Peru stood at 14,335ft (4369m) and was the highest course in the world.

The par 72 Jade Dragon Snow Mountain golf course in Gan Haizi, Yunnan Province, China stands at 10,000ft above sea level and is also the longest golf course in the world at 8,457 yards.

World Golf Championships at altitude

There have been a number of professional tournaments played at altitude, most notably the WGC-Mexico Championship at the Club de golf Chapeltepec, which stands at 7,870ft (2,400m) above sea level.
