DM: For me, the Hotchkin offers one good hole after another, which makes for a strong cumulative effect.
EB: The last hole is a weakness for me.
Commentary: One of our finest inland courses.

DM: A brilliant closing four holes offer a bit of everything.
EB: One of the best links in England.
Commentary: Not quite as magical as Brancaster but arguably a more stringent test of golf.

SA: One of the best sets of greens in GB&I. I’ve played it many times and it continues to impress.
Commentary: The pick of the Ws, according to our panel, and £85 is a fair price to pay.

Commentary: Unanimously selected as our No 1 course.

DM: I love the challenge of feeding your ball into these greens that run away from you.
EB: Can’t speak highly enough of this course.
Commentary: This is a Herbert Fowler classic that owes very little to power and plenty to creative shot-making. That’s why our panel love it so much.
22. BERWICK-UPON-TWEED (GOSWICK)

DM: There is real variety on offer here, including some brilliant holes.
Commentary: The nearest many get to Goswick is on the A1 or the train going to or from Edinburgh. They are missing out on a homely club and an excellent links.

DM: Would be even better if there were more holes in the dunes.
JB: Some fantastic holes and a good finish. A special place to play.
