Royal St George’s
Fantastic use of the land. Underrated links terrain which is relatively unusual compared to a lot of other English seaside courses. Plays extremely firm and fast which facilitates the running game. – John Mcloughlin
It rates so highly in all areas. It’s got fantastic turf. The green complexes are brilliant. The setting, the dunes – it’s got great variety and manages to hold it pretty much for all 18 holes. There aren’t many links courses that do that. – Steve Watton
I might be persuaded to change to Sandwich over Birkdale. While Birkdale has majesty, Sandwich perhaps has more subtle qualities. – George Oldham
World class individual golf holes that you don’t see anywhere else. The flow and rhythm of the course keeps hitting you with quality hole after quality hole. – Ed Battye
I walked every inch during Open week and it is packed with richly characterful and idiosyncratic holes. – Dan Murphy
Royal Birkdale
A magical experience. Special holes crafted between majestic dunes. I can still remember every shot. – Steve Carroll
It’s the perfect links course for me, with a great design that is tough but fair. – Neil Gray
I played in the afterglow of an Open but I thought it’s a very fair course and it’s beautifully defined. Everything is out there in front and you. It’s tough. It’s fair. – Greg Webber
Kington
Because of the terrific routing up and around the hill and the great earth work around the greens. It’s always dry, in great condition, and it’s a stunning location. – Sean Arble
Sunningdale Old
It’s beautiful, I just love the feel of it. It’s probably one of the best inland courses anywhere. I love the green complexes. It’s quintessentially English to me. – Dove Jones
Sunningdale New
It’s just got better over time. It used to be the second course but now is seen as equal to the Old. That’s the course that really stood out to me this year. – Niall Flanagan
Seacroft
My first experience of links golf. Out and back. Raised greens. Towering dunes. A par 3 in the air. The coolest collection of par 5s I can think of. And some tremendous restoration work by Clyde Johnson. – Tom Irwin
