Waterville, Ireland
Set in a breathtaking remote location on the Ring of Kerry on a strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and Lough Currane, Waterville is revered as one of the finest links courses in the world.
It’s not hard to see why. The memorable layout is home to a collection of unforgettable holes and it becomes a real challenge in the blustering winds.
Add in the views of the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks mountain range, Ballinskelligs Bay and the Atlantic, and Waterville becomes a truly awe-inspiring golfing experience.
Golf has been played here since 1889 but it wasn’t until John Mulcahy bought the links in the late 1960s that it really took off.
He commissioned Eddie Hackett and Claude Harmon to design a new course, which opened in 1973. It cemented its place in the links elite when Tom Fazio was tasked with a redesign a decade ago.
