Who is Xander Schauffele?
American Xander Schauffele is one of just two Olympic Gold Medallists in golf since the sport was added back into the Olympic programme in 2016.
He was born in 1993, and has had just one swing coach throughout his career, his father. Schauffele won the California State High School Championship in 2011, before graduating and moving to California State University Long Beach, He then transferred to San Diego State University, ranking in the top ten in the world’s amateur game prior to turning professional.
In his first season on the PGA Tour, he was named Rookie of the Year. That came thanks to his first two wins, coming at the Greenbrier Classic and the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake. He also has a World Golf Championship title, as part of his seven PGA Tour wins. The most recent of those came in the co-sanctioned Genesis Scottish Open, which is also a Rolex Series level tournament on the DP World Tour.
Although he is yet to make the step in the majors, he has finished runner-up in both the Masters Tournament and the Open Championship. Schauffele also came T3 in the US Open in 2019 and has achieved a top ten at the PGA Championship as well.
In three team events with Team USA, Schauffele has been on the winning side every time. He is a two-time winner of the Presidents Cup, along with winning the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits in 2021.
