World Super 6 Perth report: What happened in the mixed-format event?

In one of the most compelling formats on the European Tour, which sees players compete in 54 holes of strokeplay with the top 24 going on to compete in a day of six-hole matchplay, New Zealander Ryan Fox came out on top for his first ever European Tour victory.

Fox, who automatically qualified for the second round of the matchplay stage thanks to a top-8 finish in the strokeplay section, almost fell at the first hurdle when Jazz Janewattananond missed a two-footer to knock him out. He survived to win at the 3rd play-off hole.

In the quarter-finals he saw off Kristoffer Reitan 1-up, before beating Paul Dunne by the same scoreline in the last four.

In the final against Adrian Otaegui, he raced into a three-hole lead before the Spaniard made a mess of the 4th and allowing Fox the simplest of victories.

In the 3rd-place play-off, Dunne was 2-up with two to play against Scott Vincent before the Zimbabwean clawed back his opponent at the 5th and 6th to force them to the 100-yard shootout hole.

And it was just as dramatic as Vincent’s effort found the grandstand behind the green while Dunne almost holed out to take bronze.

World Super 6 Perth report: The talking points

Wade Ormsby holed a brilliant putt in a shootout hole on Saturday to beat England’s Tom Murray to the final spot in Sunday’s match play shootout.

But he was not able to make any sort of charge for the title after his putter was stolen following his round on Saturday.

The Australian, who has been in great form recently, did his best to appeal for the putter to be returned on social media, but to no avail.

He was eliminated in the first round of matchplay by Vincent.

Ormsby claimed the putter was stolen from the locker room, which adds even more depth to the story. Who would have taken it?

Perhaps we’ll never know.
