What’s in Oliver Wilson’s bag?
After nine runners-up finishes and a season spent struggling on the Challenge Tour (he made short of £10,000 from 16 starts) Oliver Wilson is finally back in the big time.
The Callaway staff player opened with an eight-under effort at Carnoustie before a 65 at St Andrews on Saturday moved him three shots clear.
He then came home in 33 for a closing 70 which edged him ahead of Richie Ramsay, Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy.
Afterwards he was quick to acknowledge his Big Bertha V Series driver which has recently gone in the bag.
He said: “I put the new Callaway driver in the bag and it has genuinely helped me so much. The shot I played into 16 was probably the best in my life. Callaway has believed in me the whole time and stuck by me. Considering how many people wrote me off, this means a lot.”
"The shot I played into 16 was probably the best in my life" – Oliver Wilson Wilson, who was only playing in Scotland because of an invite, is now up to 39th in the Race to Dubai and will now play in the season-ending World Tour Championship.
The win also marks the fifth global victory for the Big Bertha V Series, launched in Europe in September.
