Cameron Champ

Lost out in the Saturday foursomes – though he was the stronger half of his partnership with Scheffler – and played the first four holes of his singles in five over. He went on to lose 6&4. To his credit he came back in style, winning on Sunday morning. A half against his first-day conqueror, MacIntyre, completed his week. 5/10

Doug Ghim

McNealy’s foursomes partner suffered the indignity of being all-square for two holes against Jordan/MacIntyre and five against Jordan on Sunday. He was never behind all weekend and led every inch of the way in his two games on Saturday. Hugely impressive. Just a few weeks ago he lost the US Amateur final to his team-mate Redman at the 37th. 10

Stewart Hagestad

The team’s designated mid-am and a Los Angeles member, Hagestad was cheered every inch of the way. He was not one of the strongest members on Team USA and found himself six down after 10 to Singh Brar in the Saturday singles, rallying to lose 3&2 in the end. When the same man came out against him in Sunday’s top singles match most would have had GB&I down for a point. Hagestad, though, had other ideas and took advantage of some late blemishes from his opponent to earn a point that will have meant a lot both to him and the USGA. 5

Maverick McNealy

Went out last in every session – apparently because he is a slow eater – which meant he was something of a silent assassin over the week. The only man on either side with previous Walker Cup experience and the No 2 amateur in the world cruised through the weekend, winning every match. He was behind for long periods in his Saturday singles against Gregory but still came good in the end. 10

Collin Morikawa

Formed a strong foursomes partnership with Xiong, which delivered two points at the top of the order. Saw off McBride and Ellis in the singles to complete a perfect week and didn’t seem to miss a putt from inside 10 feet. 10

Doc Redman

Crowned the US Amateur champion down the road at Riviera just a few weeks earlier, Redman did not enjoy a happy week personally. He had two different foursomes partners without success and didn’t play on Saturday afternoon. His singles against Boote was close but a bogey-bogey finish meant he couldn’t turn it around at the end. 2

Scottie Scheffler

Poor on Saturday morning and consequently rested until Sunday afternoon when he saw off Syme at the last, thanks to a particularly hot putter, to rescue something from the week on a personal basis. 4

Braden Thornberry

Perhaps the most unorthodox swing on show, but one of the stand-out ball-strikers. Left out on Saturday morning, he found himself two down with five to play in the top singles. Who knows, it might have been different had Ellis held on but Thornberry signed off with an iron that finished 18 inches away at the last. Missed out in the Sunday foursomes, this time losing at the 18th, but took full advantage of an off-colour McBride to end the week on a high. 7

Norman Xiong

The foursomes partnership with Morikawa delivered two points. In the Saturday singles, he was three down after five to Syme thanks to a double and two bogeys but recovered to go ahead on the 12^th and never looked back. He and Gregory won six holes each in a see-saw Sunday singles and only a closing double cost him the chance of a perfect record. 9

Will Zalatoris

Having lost his opening foursomes, Zalatoris found himself one down to Jordan through 12 holes in the afternoon. Like so many games, thereafter it turned America’s way. He then added a pair of comfortable wins on Sunday to complete a very satisfactory week. Beat Davidson twice on Sunday. 8
