VIDEO: NCG guide to Royal Liverpool Hole 18
Hole 18 – Dun
560 yards, par 5
What the players face:
Doglegging around two sides of the practice area, this is the only Open venue to end on a par 5.
How to play it:
The first priority of anyone playing this hole is to avoid going out of bounds – which runs to the right of the fairways for its entire length. The most direct route is to drive down the right then hit over the corner. A safer, and longer, method is to play left and stay there. It is predominantly downwind, though, so the players will be thinking of attacking here.
Did you know:
Usually the 16th hole for the members, this green is some distance away from the clubhouse, which means it is possible for the grandstands to create a horseshoe for a special final-hole atmosphere.
