Inbee Park’s victory at the LPGA Championship ended a run of three straight American winners in the majors this year.

Brittany Lincicome held the final round lead and was looking to follow compatriots Lexi Thompson, Michelle Wie and Mo Martin into the major winner’s circle.

But Park finished with a 2-under 70 to match Lincicome at 11-under 276 and managed to win with a par on the first play-off hole.

It was the South Korean player’s fifth major title and fourth in the last two seasons.

Seventeen-year-old rookie Lydia Ko of New Zealand, seeking to become the youngest major winner in LPGA history, shot a 70 to finish third at 8 under.

After the win Park claimed she was honoured to defend her crown.
