US OPEN 2012: Mike Davis on the course
On added length
“By having some longer tees, it gives us some flexibility to mix and match. So I doubt you will ever see us play it at 7,170. I think it’s always going to be shorter.”
On the test
“We are incredibly bullish on how good a test we think this is going to be. I think it’s really going to be outstanding.”
On shotmaking
“I think the first thing that comes to mind is this is really going to be a great great shot-maker’s course. By that, I mean somebody who is able to control his ball is going to have a real advantage here.”
On shaping
“A straight ball will never hurt you, but being able to curve it one way or another really can benefit you. I think seven of the 14 holes dogleg and many fairways cant against the dogleg.”
On the likely winner
“I could see a short ball hitter winning, a long ball hitter or in between.”
On the hard front nine
“You’re going to see them beat up at the beginning and then have the chance to catch up at the end.”
