Top 7: Most memorable golf play-off victories

We take a look at some of the most memorable play-off wins in golf from Bubba's Masters genius to Tiger taming Rocco..

3. Bubba Watson- The Masters 2012

The 2010 Masters ended at the 2nd play-off hole as Bubba Watson and Louis Ousthuizen battled it out on the 10th hole.

Both players hit their respective drives into the infamous pines on the right hand side of the fairway, nerves seeming to get the better of the pair.

Ousthuizen put his 3rd shot to the back fringe with a chance to hole his putt for par. What came next, nobody expected.

Watson found his drive had come to rest in a gap in the trees and played a shot only he could play. Curving the ball at a 90 degree angle, Bubba found the green with one of the most mesmerising shots ever seen in the history of golf. He went on to two putt and win his first major tournament.

2. Larry Mize – The Masters 1987

Going into the 1987 Masters play-off, Augusta born Larry Mize was by no means the favourite to win. With only 1 previous victory the 28 year old was taking on Greg Norman and Seve Ballesteros for the illustrious green jacket.

At the 2nd play-off hole, Mize found himself short of the green facing a difficult chip, water waiting if hit slightly too firm.

Larry bounced the ball up the grassy bank and watched it roll across the 11th green before it dropped into the hole. A boyish jump followed as Mize struggled to contain his emotions. Norman went on to miss his birdie attempt and Mize was crowned champion.

“I didn’t think Larry would get down in two, and I was right. He got down in one,” Norman said Sunday night.

1. Jonathan Byrd- The Shriners Open 2010

Following 3 play-off holes at the 2010 Shriners Open in Las Vegas Jonathan Byrd, Cameron Percy and Martin Laird came together to discuss whether there was enough light to continue.

The trio agreed to play just the one more hole with the understanding any of them could stop if they couldn’t read their putts on the green.

With the honour on the 204 yard par 3, Byrd stepped up and struck his ball into the darkness. Soon followed the crowd’s reaction as his ball pitched 10ft short and rolled into the cup.

Percy and defending champion Laird both hit their balls into the water and Byrd claimed his 4th PGA Tour title. The only player to ever win a play-off, with an ace, on the PGA Tour.
