‘It’s always been a dream of mine’ – Lewis gets his PGA Tour card

Former Open silver medallist Tom Lewis has earned his PGA Tour card after romping to a five-shot win at the Korn Ferry Finals

Korn Ferry finals

Tom Lewis won the Korn Ferry Finals Tour Championship to secure his PGA Tour card for the 2019-20 season.

The season-ending event concluded on Monday with the top-25 players securing their card for America’s premier circuit.

Lewis’ win shot rounds of 68-66-66-65 to finish on 23-under par and cruise to five-shot victory ahead of Argentina’s Fabian Gomez.

This will be The Englishman’s rookie season on the PGA Tour and he said: “It’s always been a dream of mine to play on the PGA Tour.”

  • What’s in Lewis’s bag?

After a decorated amateur career that included wins in the Boys Amateur Championship and St Andrews Links Trophy, Lewis qualified for the Open at Royal St George’s where he earned the silver medal for low amateur.

He turned pro after the 2011 Walker Cup and it took him just a month to win his first European Tour title at the Portugal Masters. He was made to wait for a second, though, winning the same event in 2018.

Now the 28-year-old will have to decide if he defends that title or heads to the Zozo Championship in Japan, an event for which Tiger Woods has already committed.

Twenty-four players also grabbed their Tour cards through the Korn Ferry Finals and a further 25 players had already secured their cards earlier this month through the regular season points list.

Some notable names also heading for the big time thanks to a strong Korn Ferry Finals performance are Viktor Hovland, Beau Hossler and Doug Ghim – the low amateur at this year’s Masters.
