‘There have been books and articles and TV shows about me – most filled with errors’

Tiger Woods is set to release his first memoir in what is promised to be the publishing event of the decade

Tiger Woods book

Here we go. We’ve heard from his former caddie and coach, and a collection of others, but now we’ll get to hear from the man himself in the latest Tiger Woods book.

Titled ‘Back’, presumably to do with his Masters victory this year and all-round Lazarus-like comeback in recent years as opposed to his failing body, it will be his first memoir.

There have been other titles that Woods has been involved with in the past, one with Lorne Rubenstein on the 1997 Masters victory as well as an instruction book from 2002, with but this will be the definitive story of his life with publishers HarperCollins getting the golden ticket.

They said: “Back is a candid and intimate narrative of an outsize American life: from growing up a celebrated golfing prodigy to shattering centuries-old racial barriers as a young pro; from rising to unprecedented fame and global icon status to battling devastating injuries and personal issues; from enduring years of physical anguish to mounting an astonishing comeback at 43 years old, culminating with the 2019 Masters, where his thrillingly impossible victory captured the imagination and hearts of people around the world.”

Like me you’ll likely have scoured that paragraph for a mere mention of the word scandal and the like but all of that will have to wait until the grand unveiling and serialisations which are yet to be confirmed.

Woods said: “I’ve been in the spotlight for a long time, and because of that, there have been books and articles and TV shows about me, most filled with errors, speculative and wrong. This book is my definitive story.”

So not Hank’s or Stevie’s or anyone else who have sold out on their old boss.

The 15-time major champion added: “It’s in my words and expresses my thoughts. It describes how I feel and what’s happened in my life. I’ve been working at it steadily, and I’m looking forward to continuing the process and creating a book that people will want to read.”

Shannon Welch will edit the book.
