And the least surprising news of the year is…
Tiger Woods shocks precisely no one with his latest claim. Alex Perry reveals all in The Slam
In the week’s least shocking news, Tiger Woods has said he didn’t perform at the Ryder Cup because he was too tired.
He also revealed the sky is blue, Piers Morgan is a prat, and Brexit is a bad idea.
Tiger lost all of his four matches at Le Golf National and, in a press conference that made headlines for all sorts of other reasons, Woods sat stony-faced throughout – almost as if he was about to nod off.
He blamed it on the “cumulative effect of the entire season”, which ended with him winning his 80th PGA Tour title at the season-ending Tour Championship, in which he had to hold off the likes of Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose.
In a nutshell, Woods said he hadn’t “trained enough” for the amount of golf he played in 2018.
But it hasn’t stopped him wanting to be a player-captain at next year’s Presidents Cup. “God I hope so,” he said, when asked about that possibility.
If you think just playing is tiring enough, Tiger…
So what’s next for the GOAT. Well, he hasn’t thought much passed his Thanksgiving showdown with Phil Mickelson and the Hero World Challenge at the end of the year. One thing’s for sure, he’s going after Jack’s record, and if that doesn’t get you excited, well…
Cuploads of cash
The PGA Tour is in the middle of its three-tournament Asia swing at the CJ Cup in South Korea, a tournament that has attracted some huge names including no fewer than 11 major champions.
I just can’t think of a reason why these notoriously bad travellers from the PGA Tour would show up at the no-cut event with a $9.5 million purse.
Nope. It’s gone.
Also, the winner of the CJ Cup doesn’t even get a cup. Here’s JT from last year…
Nifty fifty
Speaking of cash, the current £50 note here in the UK is changing to become more like those shiny £5 and £10 notes that you don’t have any more because of Brexit.
As well as the Queen, of course, it currently features two trailblazers of the industrial revolution, Matthew Boulton and James Watt.
But the new note will feature some fresh faces, with the internet nowhere near short of ideas. In fact, I even made my own suggestion…

About the Slam
Founded in 2017 in a tiny green room in Leeds, The Slam, presented by Alex Perry, is National Club Golfer’s irreverent look back on the biggest news of the week from the golfing world.
It has since received rave reviews from the critics:
“This guy is nowhere near as funny as he thinks he is” – Facebook
“I wish he would get his hair cut” – YouTube
“WTF” – Twitter
“I heard him say Tiger Woods. Did he criticise Tiger Woods?” – Tiger Woods fans
“You look very handsome and I’m ever so proud” – Alex’s mum
If you’d like more musings from Alex’s little world, you can follow him on Twitter. Or don’t, that’s up to you. Probably best you don’t.
Want to see more episodes of the Slam? Then you must be really bored. Anyway, you can do that by clicking here or heading over to NCG’s YouTube channel.
