The Masters 2015: Day one facts and figures
An eventful day at Augusta National served up some impressive statistics. We delve into the key facts and figures from the first Major of the season.
Facts
64 – Jordan Spieth tore up Augusta in his opening round, just one shy of the course record.
65 – At 65 Tom Watson broke the record for the oldest player to break par at The Masters
Driving Distance
No surprises here as the big hitting Dustin Johnson tops the leaderboard with a an average of 316 yards.
Another big hitter – J.B. Holmes – sits behind Johnson with an average 310 yards after the opening round in Georgia.
19-year old was the only other player to average over 300 yards, his opening round average? 302.
The longest drive of the day was provided by Rory McIlroy, his opening tee shot was a monster 327 yards.
Putting
Jordan Spieth may be the clubhouse leader, and rightly so, but it may come as a surprise to some that he is not currently leading the putting statistics.
With an average 1.39 strokes per green he is tied-second with a crop of players that include Paul Casey and Sergio Casey.
Matt Kuchar currently recording the lowest average with 1.33 strokes per green despite only making an even-par opening round.
Birdies
It will come as no surprise to see Jordan Spieth to lead the field in Birdies made, with nine. Jason Day currently two behind with seven.
Ian Poulter will be irate that his six opening round birdies could not prevent a one-over par round, which places him in 41st place.
Eagles
Only seven players so far have recorded an Eagle at the end of the opening days golf. Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson, Charley Hoffman, Matt Kuchar, Ben Martin, Charl Schwartzel and Danny Willett have done so after Day One.
Willett with surely the best of the bunch, his 64-footer at the 13th one of the shots of the day.
Greens in Regulation
Billy Horschel managed to make 17 Greens in regulation at 94%. So close Billy.
Toughest hole
The par-4 final hole proved to be the ‘bogey’ hole for the most players in the opening round. With 38 players recording a bogey at the 18th.
The par-3 12th recorded the most double bogeys or worse with nine players coming away with double bogeys or worse.
