Solheim Cup: Rookie Hull named in European side
Charley Hull will become the youngest player in Solheim Cup history as Europe look to win on American soil for the first time at Colorado GC in Denver on August 16-18.
The 17-year-old was one of four of Lotta Neumann’s picks along with Caroline Hedwall, Giulia Sergas and Jodi Ewart-Shadoff.
The other eight members remained the same before the Women’s British Open so they will join Suzann Pettersen, Carlota Ciganda, Catriona Matthew, Caroline Masson, Beatriz Recari, Anna Nordqvist, Karine Icher and Azahara Munoz.
That means Europe will have six rookies in their ranks.
American skipper Meg Mallon went for the rookie Gerina Piller and Michelle Wie. Earlier Morgan Pressel played her way on to the team in place of Jennifer Johnson.
“I think having four picks made it difficult, I’m going to work on changing that I think. It was a tough day having to make some phone calls and talking to some of the players but I feel really comfortable and very confident with the players,” explained Neumann.
One player to miss out, for the first time since the competition began in 1990, was Laura Davies.
“I spoke to her on Saturday and she knew and she said that ‘I haven’t played enough. I tried but I haven’t performed well enough and I just wish you and the team the best of luck and just go get ‘em, you can do it in Colorado’”.

Been watching and playing golf since the early 80s and generally still stuck in this period. Huge fan of all things Robert Rock, less so white belts. Handicap of 8, fragile mind and short game
