Social Spotlight: Spieth buys $7m mansion & races Rory
Mansion of the Week: Jordan Spieth
Q. What do you do if you are golf’s No. 1 earner?
A. Buy a huge mansion with a basketball court!
Jordan Spieth earned a mighty $53,030,465 last year (that’s before signing with Coca-Cola), and spent no time making some lifestyle upgrades.
The World No. 1 acquired Hunter Mahan’s old Dallas mansion for a cool $7 million. It was originally listed for $8.5 million, so Spieth seems to have negotiated a fairly decent deal for himself (in millionaire world).
His new dream-house includes an indoor basketball court, outdoor pool and grilling area, wine cellar, golf simulator, workout room and a 12-car underground garage complete with a mural of the Augusta National clubhouse on the wall.
So basically everything an incredibly wealthy 22-year-old could dream of.

Publicity Stunt of the Week: McIlroy & Spieth’s Abu Dhabi skateboard race
Golfers are no strangest to ’wacky’ PR stunts prior to big tournaments. You may recall when Tiger Woods hit ’the world’s first intercontinental shot’ off Istanbul’s Bosphorus Bridge to promote the 2013 Turkish Airlines Open; according to Sky Sports, the stunt closed traffic on one side of the bridge for 20 minutes “causing chaos at one of the busiest times of the day”.
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship was no different, enlisting Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler and Henrik Stenson to partake in a U.S. vs. Europe race cleverly titled the ’Rider Cup’.
The race took place on GolfBoards – electronic skateboards which allow you to ’surf’ around the golf course. Watch the video here.
“It was actually quite competitive, Jordan nearly took me out,” McIlroy said afterwards, apparently forgetting that it only took a game of football to ruin his Open defence last year.
“We collided halfway down the fairway. Thankfully I didn’t fall off.”
Spieth’s take on it was a little different.
“Well, he’s one very good player that I could have taken out of the field,” he said, laughing (menacingly).
