Tiger Woods hit two remarkable recovery shots from the trees on his way to an opening round of one under par at the 2018 Valspar Championship.
It got us thinking about some of the best recovery shots that we’ve seen. Here’s a Quick 9 of the best golf recovery shots…
9. Phil Mickelson, 2014, The Barclays
Sitting in the hospitality area must be one of the best ways to watch the action at a golf tournament (I can only imagine).
You can pig out on food and drink while watching some of the best players in the world work their magic.
But five-time major champion Phil Mickelson decided to give spectators an extra treat at The Barclays in 2014 when he fired his tee shot into the hospitality stand on the par-4 5th at Ridgewood Country Club.
‘Lefty’ managed to salvage a bogey from a pretty precarious position. But wait…
…he then went and did it again the very next day on the same exact hole.
8. Bill Haas, 2011 Tour Championship
Haas’ recovery shot from the water in an epic play-off battle with Hunter Mahon at the 2011 Tour Championship is perhaps one of the most lucrative in golf’s history.
$10 million was at stake for Haas as he chased the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup.
His hopes of glory came down to a play-off with Hunter Mahon.
Haas looked out of it on the second play-off hole when his shot from a fairway bunker trickled down the hill alongside the 17th green and wound up half-submerged in the water.
But he kept himself in the running with an astonishing shot that ended up close to the pin.
He would go on to win on the next play-off hole as Mahan failed to save par.
7. Johnny Miller, 1985 Sea Pines Heritage
Have you ever seen a worse lie in the bunker than the one two-time major champion Johnny Miller faced at the 1985 Sea Pines Heritage?

The American somehow managed to play his shot off the wooden boards in the bunker and close to the pin.
6. Kyle Stanley, 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open
Any spectators following Kyle Stanley at the final round of the 2012 Phoenix Open certainly got their money’s worth.
The big-hitting American overturned an eight-shot deficit to lift the title ahead of Spencer Levin, who suffered a final-day meltdown.
On his way to victory, Stanley hit this amazing recovery shot from under a cactus tree on the 17th hole.
5. Charl Schwartzel, 2014 Volvo Golf Champions
Slowing your car down to avoid a strapping South African professional golfer wasn’t in any hazard awareness test I ever took.
But for any unsuspecting person happening to drive along the tarmac cart path at the Volvo Golf Champions in Durban they would have come across Charl Schwartzel lining up a shot.
An errant tee shot saw Schwartzel land on the cart track and he had to clear a tall line of trees to get back in play.
Schwartzel stunned everyone by landing his shot just five feet from the pin.
4. Jordan Spieth, 2017 Open Championship
We were treated to some amazing golf shots at last year’s Open Championship – none more so than Jordan Spieth’s incredible recovery on the 13th hole at Royal Birkdale.
Well, the driving range to be more precise.
After taking an unplayable following a wayward drive, the young Texan spent a good 20 minutes looking for a place to drop his ball on the driving range which backed on to the par-4 13th.
He eventually fired his recovery shot short of the green and somehow managed to salvage a bogey.

As they say, the rest is history.
3. Sergio Garcia, 2013 Arnold Palmer Invitational
I can barely hit a golf ball using two hands on a golf club let alone one.
But not only can the great Sergio Garcia hit a golf ball using just one hand, he can also do it while standing backwards in a tree.

The Masters champion was playing in the 2013 Arnold Palmer Invitational in Florida when he pulled off this miraculous recovery shot.
Unfortunately, the Spaniard injured his shoulder in the process and was forced to withdraw from the tournament.
2.Rory Mcllroy, 2014 Tour Championship
Rory Mcllroy is good. In fact, he is very good. But I will be surprised if anyone ever again replicates the bizarre outcome after his tee shot at the 2014 TOUR Championship in Atlanta.
The Northern Irishman hammered his drive too far right and hit the top of a tree. What happened next was just staggering.
The ball dropped out of the tree and landed in a spectator’s pocket.
All an astonished Mcllory could do was shake the man’s hand and get his ball back for a drop.
1. Jason Kokrak, 2016 Wells Fargo Championship
Fans in the grandstand at the 18th hole at the Wells Fargo Championship in North Carolina were presented with the opportunity of getting up close and personal with one of the players.
American Jason Kokrak hit what you would politely call an errant shot into the second tier of the grandstand.
However, Kokrak wasn’t ruffled and expertly hit his recovery shot close to the pin.
