Tour news: Molinari in danger of failing Q-School exam

It's the halfway stage at Q-school – and some big names are in danger of mssing out on a return to the European Tour next year

A total of 156 players are currently battling it out at PGA Cataluyna Resort in Spain with 25 European Tour cards for next season up for grabs.

Three rounds of six have been played and following tomorrow’s cut only the top 70 and ties will advance.
Several household names are unlikely to make the grade, including the former Ryder Cup player, Edoardo Molinari. Currently sitting in T77, the Italian has previously won 2 European Tour events but injury has hindered his career and a return to the big time is looking unlikely next season.

Other previous tour winners are also struggling.
Ireland’s Peter Lawrie was disqualified from the competition yesterday and therefore will not receive his card to play next year.
156 players are currently battling it out at PGA Cataluyna Resort in a bid to possess 1 of 25 European Tour cards. Englishman Nick Dougherty, a three-time European Tour winner, is currently in T148th.

Some of GB&I’s Walker Cup heroes are also struggling in Spain, with both Ashley Chesters and Jimmy Mullen outside the cut mark.

However, their Irish teammate Paul Dunne is currently T55 and has a good chance of making the cut and therefore an opportunity to gain his tour card later this week.

Currently leading the event is 19-year-old Swedish amateur Marcus Kinhult on 14 under par.
Kinhult is expected to turn professional following this week’s event.
Austrian Lukas Nemecz is also on -14 despite a triple-bogey seven on the last hole of his 3rd round.
