Drink-spraying PGA Tour pro wrestled to the ground while celebrating at RBC Canadian Open

As Nick Taylor rolled in his monster eagle putt to win the RBC Canadian Open, Adam Hadwin charged on to the green and was taken down by a security guard who reacted in the only way he knew how...

Adam Hadwin and a host of Canadian golfers were watching and willing Nick Taylor to win the RBC Canadian Open yesterday evening.

As Taylor reached the fourth playoff hole against Tommy Fleetwood, the tension was at boiling point on the 18th hole at Oakdale Golf and Country Club which was surrounded by spectators.

Taylor rolled in an incredible 72-foot eagle putt on the par-5 hole to spark jubilant scenes around the putting surface on a wet day in Toronto.

Hadwin couldn’t contain his excitement, leaving Corey Conners and Mike Weir to burst on to the green with a bottle of champagne to celebrate with Taylor.

But this was lost on one security guard. He saw a man running toward the tournament winner, so duty called!

Hadwin was rugby-tackled to the ground in footage that went viral from so many angles on social media.

Taylor had become the first Canadian to win their national open on the PGA Tour since 1954 – at the expense of Fleetwood who is still on the hunt for his first win on the circuit.

“Corner of my eye I saw he got a nice tackle there,” Taylor said afterward. “I hope he’s all right. He was upright when I saw him later.

“So I hope he doesn’t wake up tomorrow morning with any broken ribs or anything.”

Thankfully, his wife Jessica confirmed on Twitter that her husband, a one-time winner on tour himself, was safe and sound.

“Sorry to leave y’all hanging, had to get the toddler ready for bed. I’m thrilled to report that @ahadwingolf is still among the land of the living and in true Canadian form, apologised to the security guard for being tackled.”
