South Korean superstar Amy Yang was a record-breaker as an up-and-coming player.

Yang, who was born in South Korea but moved to Australia with her family at the age of 15 in order to bolster her golfing prospects, was the youngest player to win the Queensland Amateur Championship with her victory 2005. She also finished second at the 2006 Australian Junior Championship.

Her breakthrough moment came when she won the 2006 ANZ Ladies Masters on the Ladies European Tour (LET) as an amateur to become the youngest winner ever on the LET at 16 years, six months and eight days.

The current world No 6 was granted a special three-year membership exemption to join the LET, beginning in 2006 as a 17-year-old.

Yang’s stock continued to rise in 2007 as she competed on the LET and recorded five top-20 finishes, including a fourth-place finish at the S4/C Wales Ladies Championship.

A defining moment for the now 26-year-old came when she successfully negotiated the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn non-exempt status for the 2008 LPGA season.

Yang secured her second LET win with a four-shot win at the 2008 Ladies German Open and her third victory arrived at the Scandinavian TPC hosted by Annika. The high-flying Korean returned to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament later that year and a runner-up berth earned her full playing status for 2009.

She continued to establish herself as one of the big names in the women’s game over the next few years.

Her best finish in the Majors so far has come in the US Women’s Open, twice finishing second in 2012 and 2015.

She has won two times on the LPGA – the 2013 LPGA KEB-HanaBank Championship and the 2015 Honda LPGA Thailand.

At just 26 years old and currently sixth in the world, there is still plenty to look forward to for Amy Yang.
