In the first of a new series we speak to Ian Woosnam’s peers to hear their favourite stories over 30 years of competition.
The Welshman turned pro more than 40 years ago and, after a slow start in the paid ranks, he emerged into the best player in the world with the highlight coming at the Masters in 1991.
He was a member of eight consecutive Ryder Cup teams – and we spoke to his partner in 1993 Peter Baker – before taking the reins himself at the K Club in a record-equalling victory in 2006.
The one constant throughout, away from the brilliant ball striking, is how good a bloke he is. We also hear from his now Senior Tour colleagues Barry Lane, Andrew Oldcorn, Gary Wolstenholme and Roger Chapman to try and decipher what makes Woosnam so special.
