LET legend Davies to make history on men’s senior tour

Laura Davies, a winner of 84 Ladies European Tour and LPGA titles including four majors, will compete at the Shipco Masters in June

Dame Laura Davies will make history when she competes in the Shipco Masters next month.

She will be able to add being the first woman to play on the Staysure Tour, formerly the European Senior Tour, to her lengthy list of incredible achievements

This includes 84 worldwide wins, including four majors, a place in golf’s hall of fame, 12 Solheim Cup appearances and winning the Ladies European Tour Order Of Merit seven times.

If anyone wasn’t convinced that the 54-year-old deserves the title as England’s greatest female golfer, then they certainly should be now.

Davies is excited to compete in the event which begins on June 1 at Simon’s Golf Club in Kvistgard, Denmark.

She said: “You only get one chance to become the first, and the time is right to do it.”

Davies has always been an inspiring, trailblazer for women’s golf. I can’t think of anyone more fitting to take this great step forward for the ladies game – especially so soon after the successful addition of female golfers to the GolfSixes field.

“I’m very grateful to the Staysure Tour for being so forward-thinking, and to the tour’s members who have been so supportive of this decision,” she added.

“I am particularly encouraged by the increasing number of opportunities arising for women and men to compete in the same event. This is my turn to do so and I hope to see many more opportunities in future in all manner of formats.”

Paul McGinley will also be making an appearance at the event, and the former Ryder Cup captain described her presence as a “great step forward for golf”.

For many of us, Davies is a genuine golfing heroes. 2018 has already been a fantastic year for women’s golf, and it’s about to get even better.
