Is the way you sleep giving you back pain?

How important is it to get the correct mattress to help get a good night’s sleep?

Given that we sleep for around a third of our lives, we should ensure we have a mattress that is supportive and comfortable. A poor quality mattress can lead to aches and pains if they are too soft or too hard. Some mattresses can also make us too hot. We need to be cool in order to get off to sleep and maintain sleep, so mattresses that become hot can lead to more fragmented sleep.

How common is it for people’s back pain to be cause by sleeping on a bad mattress? /

Can an existing back injury be made worse by sleeping on a bad mattress?

Sleeping on a mattress with the wrong amount of support and pressure relief can both cause or worsen back pain. Without the appropriate support, a mattress will reinforce poor posture – which can ultimately lead to strained muscles, joints and ligaments. Sleeping on old mattresses that have begun to sag and soften is a common problem that has been known to exacerbate chronic back pain. A good mattress should evenly distribute bodyweight across the length and width of the body in order to prevent undue pressure on problem areas such as the lower back, neck and pelvis.

How do your mattresses improve back pain?

Mammoth mattresses come in a range of different tensions and “feels” to provide superior comfort to sleepers of all shapes and sizes. But the one thing that all Mammoths have in common is Medical Grade™ foam technology. Derived from healthcare, this unique foam offers unrivalled pressure relief and postural support to evenly distribute weight and maintain good spinal alignment. In independent tests, Mammoth’s Medical Grade™ foam mattress was found to deliver 46% more pressure relief than a standard memory foam mattress.

Mammoth’s PostureCell™ technology also means that the body is not locked into position – as is the case with memory foam. Small movements at night are actually essential to ensuring that muscles do not stiffen over night.
