Indiana Jones actor crashes plane on golf course

Hollywood actor Harrison Ford had a brush with death after crash-landing the plane he was piloting on a Los Angeles golf course.

The actor, who made his name as iconic adventurer Indiana Jones and space smuggler Han Solo in Star Wars, was left “battered, but OK” following the crash at Penmar Golf Course in Los Angeles.

The 72-year-old’s son, Ben, wrote on Twitter: “Dad is OK. Battered, but OK. He is every bit the man you would think he is. He is an incredibly strong man.”
”He is an incredibly strong man’ Ford is a veteran pilot and had rented the vintage Ryan PT-22 Recruit plane from an airfield close to where he is shooting the latest Star Wars film.

Prior to the crash, the Star Wars actor reported engine failure to the Santa Monica airport control tower and requested “immediate return”, but did not make it back to the runway.

Paramedics found him to be alert and conscious after suffering “moderate trauma”, said Los Angeles assistant fire chief Patrick Butler.

The United Talent Agency, which represents Ford, said in a statement that his plane had stalled upon take off. It added: “He had no other choice but to make an emergency landing, which he did safely. He was banged up and is in the hospital receiving medical care. The injuries sustained are not life threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery.”
