Video: How to organise your golf bag
If you’re as anal as I am then yes, you have.
In fact, if you’re anything like me, you probably tried around 30 different configurations before you settled on your current order.
Granted, I have improved over the past couple of years (I remember the 14-way divider intervention of 2011 well) but I still believe it can make a massive difference to on-course mentality.
In the same way a pre-shot routine relaxes and reassures you, having every club in its rightful place is one of the keys to a stableford score of 10 points or more in my opinion.
Indeed, if my 9-iron isn’t in the correct compartment, you can expect several minutes of breathless panic until it slots in, in numerical order alongside the seven hybrid and eight hybrid.
Should we be spending more time honing our techniques than fussing over where our anti-shank lob wedge sits? My OCD is so bad that some of the craftier members of the NCG team have even resorted to mixing my bag up while my back is turned in a shameless attempt to get me out of the zone.
I stumbled across this video recently and found it quite interesting as I agree almost completely (though I am a firm believer in a left-to-right descent as loft increases) with Conan.
It got me thinking, though. Are myself and Mr Elliot foolish for paying so much attention to the way our bag is put together? Should we be spending more time honing our techniques than fussing over where our anti-shank lob wedge sits?
