Heartbreak for Madsen as Van Dam goes back to back

The Open de Espana provided a fine finish to a fantastic week for the LET

Andalucia Costa Del Sol Open de Espana report: What happened at Aloha Golf Club?

Anne van Dam successfully defended her Open de Espana title with a one-shot victory over Nanna Koerstz Madsen.

The Dutch superstar snatched victory from her Danish playing partner on the 72nd hole when Madsen missed a short putt for bogey leaving Van Dam with a winning score of 13-under.

Van Dam began the final hole one behind Madsen and when the leader sent her tee shot into the water the door was left open for her to capitalise.

Following Madsen’s drop she found the heart of the green, leaving a long par effort and from there left a straightforward short putt for bogey.

The 25-year-old missed that meaning that if Van Dam could hole her short par putt she would retain her title.

Van Dam would not miss out on the opportunity to claim her fourth LET win and her second of the season.

Sweden’s Julia Engstrom made up the final threeball but a final-round 75 saw her slip to tied 4th. Aditi Ashok took second place with four rounds under par.

Andalucia Costa Del Sol Open de Espana report: Talking point

The news we have all been waiting for was confirmed this week following the AGM of the Ladies European Tour.

It was announced that the LPGA and the LET will be joining forces to help take the women’s game forward.

A deal which would see the two tours merge has been on the table for some time now and it was voted through by the LET players. Mark Townsend has all the details.
