Top 8: Golfers to break 60 on Tour

An illustrious club to be part of, we look at some of the golfers who are lucky enough to be part of the '59 club'..

4. Al Geiberger – 1977 Memphis Classic

The first ever member of the 59 club was Al Geiberger who shot 11 birdies and one eagle in his second round at the Colonial Country Club in Tennessee.

Geiberger’s unprecedented 13 under-par round earned the 1966 PGA Championship winner the title of ‘Mr 59’.

A level-par 72 on Saturday and a two-under 70 on Sunday meant he held off a challenge from Gary Player to win the Memphis Classic by two shots.

3. Stuart Appleby 2010 Greenbrier Classic

Playing at The Old White TPC in West Virginia, Appleby was looking for his first win on the PGA tour in four years heading into the final round.

Three consecutive birdies on 16,17 and 18 secured a glorious round of 59 to become the fifth man to reach such a feat.

His astounding final round meant he was 22 under-par for the tournament and pipped American Jeff Overton by one shot to win the inaugural Greenbrier Classic.

2. David Duval 1999 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic

Heading down the fairway of the Par 5 18th hole at the La Quinta Country Club in California, David Duval knew that he needed an eagle to secure not only victory but to become the third man in history to score 59 at an official PGA tour event.

A dream shot with his 5-iron left a nervy 6-footer which the American duly rolled in for a historical moment.

The former World No 1’s final round included 11 birdies as well as that special eagle on the last to give Duval his ninth win on the PGA tour.

1. Jim Furyk 2016 Travellers Championship

What’s better than being in the 59 club? Being in the 58 club, of course!

Furyk, who already features on this list became the first ever man to hit a 58 when he played his final round at the TPC course in Connecticut last August.

Hitting all 18 greens, the 46-year-old holed 10 birdies and one eagle in a historical final round.

Despite becoming the first man ever to hit two sub-60 rounds, Furyk only finished fifth and three shots behind the winner Russell Knox.
