Callaway launched the first Big Bertha driver back in 1991, and it has been announced today that the latest edition of the classic range will hit the market in 2014.
The range will feature two new drivers – the Big Bertha and Big Bertha Alpha – along with a set of fairway woods.
Big Bertha
The Big Bertha will be a Total Performance Driver, meaning that it will be suitable for all player abilities. The driver will also incorporate four key new technology features – adjustable premier weighting, a hyper-speed face, an advanced adjustable hosel and forged composite materials.
The Adjustable Premier Weighting system allows players to place an eight-gram sliding weight at any point across a five-inch track to help control shot shape and dispersion. This technology allows players to retain both ball speed and accuracy from off-centre impacts, and is therefore a critical element of the total performance driver.
When the initial Big Bertha driver was launched, it was one of the first titanium drivers to hit the market and represented a major step forward in equipment technology. The lightweight composite material on the new model means that it weighs under 200g and is therefore very easy to swing. It will also feature a light, robust face which helps to promote faster ball speed on impact.
The adjustable hosel system on the new Bertha means that both loft and lie angle can be independently adjusted. Four different loft options are available along with two different lies (‘D’ for draw and ‘N’ for neutral). This means that there are eight different combinations which help players get the right balance for their swing.

The Alpha will also enable players to make adjustments to the weight balance across the club head – meaning that both overall weight and shot shape bias can be adjusted. Four interchangeable weights – 1g, 3g, 5g and 7g – come with the club.
