Callaway have today launched their new range of GBB Epic drivers and fairway woods for 2017 which have been designed and produced to help golfers of all abilities.

The Great Big Bertha Epic and Sub-Zero are replacing last years GBB and the Alpha 816 Double Black Diamond drivers respectively, and both feature new revolutionary technology which Callaway say has been in the making for four years.

So what is new in the Callaway GBB Epic driver?

Jailbreak Technology

Like the name Epic, Callaway have came up with a very catchy name for their brand new technology. This is known as Jailbreak and this has been something their R&D team have been working on for the last four years.

So what is it? Jailbreak is two 3g titanium bars that have been placed behind the club face to help stiffen the face vertically and help produce faster ball speeds.

This is done by reducing how much the crown and the sole deflect at impact which forces the face to take on more of the load than ever before.

Callaway say that this is a fundamental change in how the body and face interact during impact producing greater distance.

Jailbreak isn’t the only technology going on in the Epic driver. The Exo-Cage construction of the head gives more forgiveness than ever before.

The 9.7g crown is the lightest Callaway have ever produced and with the weight savings it has allowed them to distribute more weight elsewhere to give a higher MOI with a higher launch and lower spin.

You can fine tune the club to fit your swing with the adjustable sliding weight track and OptiFit hosel. Similar to the Great Big Bertha but due to the weight savings Callaway have been able to place a heavier weight in the track to allow for 22% more shot shape correction.

In the Sub-Zero model you have the same Jailbreak technology as the standard Epic driver but with a different adjustability system.

The two interchangeable weights (12g and 2g) are positioned at the front and the back of the sole which allows golfers to change the spin rate by up to 250rpm either way.

Having the heavier weight forward lowers the spin and having it further back promotes increased forgiveness with a higher launch and longer carry.

The key features of this driver are the spin and trajectory control you get with the interchangeable weights as well as increased forgiveness with the Exo-Cage construction of the head.

Fairway woods

The GBB Epic and Sub-Zero fairway woods offer maximum forgiveness from the ultra-light Triaxal Carbon Crown helping give faster ball speeds.

As you can see there is no Jailbreak technology in these fairway woods, but you sill have the adjustable weights in the Sub-Zero model to offer a wider range of spin options.

The Sub-Zero model also offers a higher launch with the Hyper speed face cup.
