Dunhill Links Championship betting tips and preview
Looking at some of the outsiders, Chris Paisley (150/1, 8 places) might be worth a go at a triple-figure price.
This Englishman has chanced his luck over on the Web.com Tour in recent weeks in an attempt to gain a PGA Tour card for the 2019 season, but he missed three cuts in a row which ultimately cost him a spot on the big league.
At the Web.com Tour Championship – the final event in the season – Paisley fired rounds of 61 and 63 on his way to an eighth place finish.
Clearly, having missed six consecutive cuts prior to that week, he had finally started to find something in his game which led to those low scores.
Back on familiar territory this week on the European Tour, Paisley has the chance to put that disappointment behind him in a tournament he has played well in previously.
He’s missed his last two cuts here at the Dunhill, but on his debut in 2013 he finished 12th thanks to a 62 at Kingsbarns and a 66 at St. Andrews.
And perhaps he might find a little bit of motivation from seeing his good friend Tommy Fleetwood perform so well last week at the Ryder Cup.
Finally, I’ll throw some loose change at the South African, Zander Lombard (500/1, 7 places).
The 23-year-old was in contention at The Open earlier this year when he opened with a 67 before tumbling well down the leaderboard with a final round 82.
Having said that, Lombard is clearly a links specialist. Two weeks before that performance at Carnoustie, he finished sixth at the Irish Open, and back in 2014 he finished runner-up to Bradley Neil in The Amateur Championship at Royal Portrush.
