DP World Tour Championship betting tips and preview

The European Tour season finale is here. Who is our resident betting expert Keel Timmins backing for glory in Dubai?

Savvy punters have been sharp to react to the early markets with Dean Burmester (100/1, 6 places) shortening up in price, yet, at a triple-figure price, the South African still looks a touch of each-way value in this limited 60-man field.

Burmester is one of the longest players in the game – with an average driving distance of more than 318 yards, he ranks the fourth biggest hitter on the European Tour.

The Earth Course has almost always favoured players who can drive the ball a good distance and, with a 4th place finish on his debut around this track last year, this definitely seems like a layout that he enjoys playing.

More importantly, the 29-year-old is in good form after he finished 11th last week in South Africa – a significant improvement on his 42nd place the year before.

To close, I’ll head to Jordan Smith (100/1, 6 places), who looks a big price at triple figures.

Jordan Smith

The Englishman finished 25th on his course debut 12 months ago, opening up with a 3-over 75 before bouncing back excellently with rounds of 67-71-66 to climb up the leaderboard.

The 26-year-old is one of the best players from the tee – long and straight – and he’s a former winner in this part of the world having won the Ras Al Khaimah Golf Challenge on the Challenge Tour two years ago.

With a recent 3rd place finish at the British Masters, and a 20th place last time out in Sun City, Smith is in decent form and could give us a good run for our money.
