It’s official: Playing golf makes you more attractive

Alex Perry is happy in this week's Dialled In. He's just found out he's more attractive than he was last week - just because he plays golf

Hello. Welcome to Dialled In. And I’m feeling a lot better about myself this week.

Why? Because I just found out that playing golf officially makes you more attractive.

A test was carried out by Golf Support on the dating app Tinder. Now, if you don’t know what Tinder is, you are essentially presented with a person’s dating profile and if you’re interested you swipe your screen to the right and if you’re not interested you swipe left. If you swipe right on each other’s profiles, you are a match and you can then chat.

What they did was create profiles for both a man and woman, with all photographs and details remaining constant, but they changed the profile regularly to include different sports. They then swiped right on 200 profiles for each sport.

The goal, pun intended, was to find out which sport brought the most swipe-right success.

Here are some results…

The male profile with no sport mentioned in the profile received, on average, 57 matches, but when sport was involved it averaged 94. If golf was mentioned, it increased to 104 matches.

Of the 10 sports tested, golf was the third most successful, behind rugby (obviously) and weightlifting (not obviously).

The results weren’t as fluctuating on the women’s profile – probably because men are less picky – but golf did see a rise from 88 matches to 99, just behind football, cricket, gymnastics, weightlifting and dance (which isn’t a sport).

Here are the results in full…

Male profile

  • Rugby: 120 matches
  • Weightlifting: 117
  • Golf: 104
  • Swimming: 102
  • Boxing: 97
  • Football: 90
  • Dance: 89
  • Gymnastics: 77
  • Cricket: 76
  • Horse riding: 70
  • No sport mentioned: 57

Female profile

  • Dance: 118 matches
  • Weightlifting: 112
  • Gymnastics: 106
  • Cricket: 105
  • Football: 101
  • Golf: 99
  • Boxing: 94
  • Swimming: 93
  • Horse riding: 92
  • No sport mentioned: 88
  • Rugby: 74

The reason behind it all, of course, is to prove that both men and women prefer a partner who plays sport because they are more likely to be healthy and look after themselves, as well as being motivated.

And I know what you’re thinking – it sounds like an awful lot of effort to find out something that doesn’t really affect our lives.

But look at it this way: You are now officially more attractive to the opposite sex than when you started reading this column.

Guess who’s back?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Rory McIlroy on the range working his way back to full fitness should get us as excited as when Tiger Woods does it.

As much as I love watching JT, Spieth, DJ and Fowler, Rory is the superstar who can move the needle in a way only Tiger can.

So it was great to see him posting on social media over the weekend a clip of him tanking a driver into the Dubai skyline…

Decent morning for it ☀️??‍♂️?

DJ being DJ

The par-4 12th at Kapalua is 433 yards. This is what Dustin Johnson did…

I’m sure the “ball going too far” brigade will be all over this, but let’s not forget that it’s all downhill with a 25 mile-an-hour wind behind. Also, just enjoy it for the beauty it is.

Anyway, this tickled me…

Show me the money

Speaking of DJ, he is now up to fifth in the ALL-TIME earnings list. His win in Hawaii took his career earnings to $49,703,604 which was enough for him to leapfrog Ernie Els.

$20 million of those earnings have come since the beginning of 2016, which in itself would see him ranked 68th in the all-time earnings. How ridiculous is that?

Rickie raves on

Elsewhere at the Hawaii opener, Rickie Fowler followed local trends with this rather snazzy number – and it WAS UNTUCKED! I spoke about this a bit in The Slam, but the main take is: No one got hurt, no one was offended, Rickie looked great, we need to be more like Rickie.

Golf clubs, if you’re reading, if it’s good enough for the PGA Tour, it’s good enough for you.

Rahmbo rolls on

From the mind of Nosferatu this week…

Pat yourself on the back

You’ve got to love Pat Perez. Check out the predictions from the PGA Tour Radio team…

Hey, if you can’t back yourself.

Another week, another record

Who says golf needs to take four, five, six hours? Certainly not 31-year-old gym teacher Steve Jeffs, who broke the record for the fastest time to play a golf hole recently.

Want to know how fast? Here’s the clip…
