David Shacklady is part of a rare breed of golfer who comes to the Staysure Tour without the relative riches of the European Tour behind him.
Ormskirk’s Shacklady has done it the hard way, playing a collection of PGA, pro-ams and regional events to get by, something he managed to do for over 30 years.
But then came his 50th birthday and, shortly after, his greatest disappointment when he failed to make it onto the Staysure Tour. Now, though, he is very much a part of things and has his feet very nicely under the table.
We spoke to him at the Scottish Senior Open, a tournament he finished in a tie for 4th, before then winning his next two events.
Here he talks about his journey to where he is today, how close he came to packing it all in and the darts legends that he’s taken on along the way.
