‘I don’t look at stuff online these days – people are just trying to get a reaction’
If you were to host the British Masters, where would you take it?
Somewhere up north, but it depends who could do it. There are some amazing courses in Yorkshire, Moortown or Alwoodley, or nearer me is Hollinwell but having the infrastructure is a tricky one so I don’t know where it could happen.
Are there things that you would have done differently after the Masters win?
What happened happened and there’s no point in looking back. If it happened again I’d do the odd thing differently. A lot of things were things that only time can reveal, underlying issues that you never look at as you’re playing well and riding the crest of the wave and you think that will continue for a long time. Then the body gives up on you and you play badly and you look into it more.
But there’s no point in looking back and complaining as it’s happened.
How much nicer will it be going back to Augusta this year?
For the first time since winning there I’ll be going there and looking forward to hitting balls and practising up there. Before I’ve gone in the clubhouse and wondered if I was a bit fortunate, should I be stood here in my Green Jacket, all the stuff that goes through your head? Now I’d be proud of what I achieved at Augusta but even more of what I’ve achieved in the last two years.
When did you last watch the video of the Masters win?
Boxing Day on Sky Sports, it was nice to have that on in the background while the kids were playing with their new toys!

Willett: Why Foley is the man to get me back to the top
Mark Townsend
Been watching and playing golf since the early 80s and generally still stuck in this period. Huge fan of all things Robert Rock, less so white belts. Handicap of 8, fragile mind and short game
