Can you get closer to a hole-in-one than this?

Luck often plays it’s part in golf and Brendan Steele was on the wrong side of it at the Honda Classic

hole-in-one

We’ve seen enough players getting lucky breaks on tour this year already. If it wasn’t Sungjae Im bouncing one out of the water it was Callum Shinkwin playing ping pong in Oman. But the Golf Gods weren’t on Brendan Steele’s side as he was cruelly denied a hole-in-one at the Honda Classic.

Most players entering the Bear Trap – the notoriously difficult stretch of holes from 15 to 17 at PGA National – are happy enough to take three pars and move onto the 18th with no damage done, but for Steele a birdie was really less than he deserved on the par-3 15th.

In his second round he came closer than many golfers ever will to carding a hole-in-one and was right to feel hard done by.

How did that stay out? To add insult to injury, if it had found the cup the American would have been driving away in a brand new Honda. But when it’s not your day…
