Breakdown of the PGA Championship at Oak Hill

When it comes to watching sports, golf might not always be the first sport you think of. However, there’s a lot more to it than you might expect. This is especially true when thinking about the PGA Championship.

This huge golfing event is where the best of the best come and play it out to be crowned the winner. And there’s good news if you’re a sports betting fan. The PGA Championship at Oak Hill will have online betting available for you to use if you fancy making the championship even more interesting.

What is the PGA Championship?

The PGA Championship is one of four men’s major championships in professional golf that is held throughout the year. It tends to be around the same time every year and it usually falls in the middle of August.

It’s the only golfing event that doesn’t explicitly ask any leading amateurs to compete. This championship is strictly for those professional golfers only. This means that if you’re planning on only watching one golfing championship this season, you should make it the PGA. You’re not going to be able to witness a higher level of golf being played throughout the year.

The list of criteria to be in with a chance of just playing the tournament is extensive. You have to have won during the last five US Opens, Masters or Open Championships. One of the criteria on the list is to have won the PGA before – so this is a seriously competitive tournament.

Who’s playing at the PGA Championship this year?

When it comes to the PGA Championship, you know they only let in the best of the best. Let’s take a look at who has managed to make it through the testing criteria and is able to compete this year.

  • Justin Thomas

After his dramatic and nail biting victory last year, Thomas is back at it again to see if he can steal another win. For those who don’t remember, Thomas somehow managed to propel himself from seven behind to post a three-under 67 at Southern Hills last year.

This made four birdies over his final ten holes, setting the clubhouse target at five under. An incredibly tight game for an even more incredible finish.

  • Roy McIlroy

McIlroy has had a bit of a shaky start to his season due to a slightly disappointing start at the Wells Fargo Championship. However, he’s still made it through to this year’s PGA Championship so let’s see if he can take the title for the third time.

  • Jordan Spieth

Everyone will be holding their breath to see if Spieth can manage to complete his career grand slam. But that all depends on whether the wrist injury he’s been suffering from has healed enough to make it possible.

  • Jon Rahm

After winning The Masters, can Rahm manage to pull another win out of the bag? We’ll just have to wait and see.

  • Combination of long and short holes

Oak Hill has one of the best combinations of long and short holes that you can get on a golf course. This is why it’s favoured by so many golf players from across the world. There are holes that will really challenge your abilities as well as having some holes that are a joy to play.

  • Rich history you can be a part of

The Oak Hill course has been around for so long that it has acquired all kinds of interesting history. When you visit the course, you know that you’re standing in the same spot that hundreds of top champion golfers have stood before you.

When you visit the clubhouse, you are surrounded by a ton of memorabilia. There are photos, trophies and plaques for you to take in – all from your favourite golfing heroes. Even if you don’t play the course, it’s worth a visit for the rich history it contains alone.
