BMW Ladies Championship report

South Korea’s Ha Na Jang defeated Danielle Kang on the third play-off hole to win the BMW Ladies championship in her home country.

The pair were unable to be separated after 72 holes on the score of 19-under. Both players parred the 18th hole on the first two attempts in the play-off despite Kang’s agonising lip out for birdie the second time around.

This saw the duo head to the 10th tee for the third hole and again Kang could do no better than a par 4, but her rival carded a brilliant birdie to win the title and secure exemption through the 2020 LPGA season.

The 27-year-old has previously won four LPGA title but he last came more than two years ago in February 2017.

This was the second event of the LPGA Tour’s Asian swing and Kang came close to winning her second consecutive title in yet another low-scoring affair.

The American was the only representative from her country to finish inside the top 25 and enjoyed her best round of the week in Sunday’s regular play with a 64.

A blistering front nine saw her make the turn at five under for the day and she continued her good play with birdies at the 10th, 11th and 13th.

From there, she parred the remaining holes and the lead she held became threatened by Jang who moved into a tie for the lead on the 17th.

The Korean also carded her best round of the tournament with a 65 and this included a bogey at the 2nd.

The remainder of her round was blemish free and she reached the turn at one under for the day, just two shots behind Kang. An eagle at 11 had her breathing down Kang’s neck and thanks to birdies at 13, 15 and 17, she was able to set up the play-off.

Elsewhere, there was another top-10 finish for Jin Young Ko who finished on 10 under and Charley Hull recorded back-to-back 69s over the weekend to finish in a tie for 9th.
