Masters invite sent to wrong golfer in wild case of mistaken identity
We’re barely a week into the new year, and we’ve already got a contender for wildest moment of 2023 after Augusta National sent a Masters invitation to the wrong player in an astonishing case of mistaken identity.
The iconic Georgia club had been sending their annual invites to eligible players across the holidays, with one such qualifier, Scott Stallings, waiting patiently having booked his Masters place after reaching the 2022 Tour Championship.
But as players proudly received their Masters invite and shared the lucrative letters across social media for all to see, Stallings continued to wait and wait and wait. That was until a random DM reached the American, revealing one of the most bonkers blunders we’ve ever seen…
No doubt leaving Masters organisers red-faced, Stallings’ namesake – a club golfer and estate agent also from Georgia – had instead been mailed the invitation in the mix up of all mix ups!
“Hi Scott. My name is Scott Stallings as well and I’m from GA,” he wrote. “My wife’s name is Jennifer too! Her IG is [removed]. We have a condo at [removed] and I received a FedEx today from the Masters inviting me to play in the Masters Tournament April 6-9, 2023. I’m 100% sure this is not for me. I play but wow! Nowhere near your level.”
We mean seriously, what are the chances.
Following the remarkable mishap, a video was then shared showing Scott Stallings – the estate agent that is – posting the invitation to its rightful owner. The three-time PGA Tour winner will make his third Masters appearance at Augusta National in 2023.
